What originally brought you to yoga?
I started going to yoga as a little girl with my mom after ski team to Richard Odem’s classes. At that age, I often would take a nap for most of it, yet my interest was sparked. As I grew up in this community I continued going solo or with my mom to his classes also with long time local teachers such as Cathie Caccia and Ryan Redman. I started to recognize the vastness of yoga beyond the walls of a studio. That it is a way of life. And a path I wanted to walk. I started studying its origins, Ayurveda, eastern philosophy, and traveling around the world where yoga has been practiced since the dawn of its time. It lit my fire and is now something I live and breathe and cannot imagine not having in my life.
What is inspiring your teaching or personal practice right now?
I am always inspired by the ancient tradition of yoga. Going to the roots is the foundation in which I build upon to then let present age inspiration and channeling flow in. It’s a combination of playfulness, following joy and creativity while also being inspired by all life offers and encompasses. I honor and dive into both the light and the dark. I ask questions. I choose to be a seeker and to then share what I learn. I believe we all are here for an authentically different yet collectively relatable experience, if we choose to witness alikeness within difference. I have learned arriving with all of the above to my classes; anchored in honesty; is where authenticity and magic is bred.
What do you want your students to leave your class with? Presence and connection is key. I believe that’s where we tap into a form of magic that is impossible to ignore. It may be subtle at first but the more we choose to witness those details the stronger the magic of our inner world, as well as what we witness outside ourselves, becomes. Breath is our anchor into conscious awareness so with constant emphasis of that, poetry, good music and often accompanied with sound bowls, I hope to gift people into presence without judgement. Embracing their inner world, physical body, as well as energetic body and to create intimacy with one’s self; just as it is; right NOW!! I hope to give the opportunity to let go and drop into the flow of life here and now because that is truly all we have. To remember we are human BEINGS not human doings :) To ride the edges with breath to expand and grow. What happens on the mat is the beginning. What we take from our practice into life is where the true practice begins!
